Cartoons on Cartoon Network Becoming Passé?

Does anyone else believe this is a sign of the apocalypse?

The TV networks have gone mad. It's bad enough that MTV rarely airs music videos anymore, Game Show Network airs poker and reality shows daily, and that Perfect Strangers hasn't been in syndication for years, but now Cartoon Network is planning to air Saved by the Bell during Adult Swim?!?

First of all, why Adult Swim? What does Saved by the Bell have in common with Family Guy, Futurama, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Space Ghost? Secondly, in case the Cartoon Network execs forgot, Saved by the Bell is not animated. Call me old-fashioned, but I believe that no matter how high the ratings for the show may be, no live-action series should ever air on Cartoon Network. The show already airs six times a day on TBS, and honestly, this series would work better on either Nickelodeon (that's right, Nickelodeon; I refuse to call it Nick -- although Snick was alright back in the day) or Noggin. Why don't they add older adult-oriented toons, such as Ren & Stimpy, The Critic, or Duckman to the Adult Swim line-up? I'd watch 'em.

This is truly wrong. ToonDisney has already been invaded by some live-action series, such as Power Rangers. I'll admit right here and now, that I do enjoy a good Power Rangers rerun every once in a while. Heck, I've seen more episodes of Saved by the Bell than anyone should ever admit to having seen. These shows, however, do not belong on networks designed to air cartoons. To some (including myself), it might not be a very big deal, but I just worry about the future. I guess what I really want to know is, how long until we see Cartoon Network's premiere of the second animated reality show? (The first, of course, was Comedy Central's Drawn Together.) Those are just my two cents, which is literally worthless in Britain, I'm told.

The Bundys are back on DVD!!

Can I get a Whoa, Bundy!?!

The series that basically launched the Fox network and made dysfunctional families popular is back on DVD this June.

Sony has announced the fifth season of Married... with Children for release on June 20. Once again, this season will have no bonus features and the theme song will likely be replaced with the cheap-sounding alternate version used on the last two seasons. Once again, I must ask why it takes so long for these seasons to be released if there are no special features? Oh well, there's nothing I can do. Five down, six more to go.

More King of Queens and NewsRadio DVDs

Fantastic DVD News!!

Sony has just announced the fifth season of The King of Queens and the fourth season of NewsRadio for DVD release on June 20, 2006!! These are very welcome releases, although that day is already quite crowded, what with Season 4 of The Mary Tyler Moore Show, as well as the multiple Superman TV releases (Adventures of Superman Seasons 3&4, Lois and Clark Season 3, Superman The Animated Series Volume 3, and Superboy Season 1).

It has been so long since the last King of Queens DVD, which was released to coincide with the DVD release of Hitch (starring Kevin James) in June 2005. Hopefully, Season 6 will be on the schedule before the end of this year at the very least. Why do these releases take so long when there aren't even any special features on the set?!?

As for NewsRadio, I just finished watching Season 3 several weeks ago, and I can't stop thinking about how brilliant this show was! The only bad thing about this next season set is that Season 4 was the last to feature Phil Hartman. I don't think I've ever seen many of the Jon Lovitz episodes of Season 5, and Lovitz is one of my personal favorite comedians, but somehow, I'm sure it just won't be the same without The Real Deal with Bill McNeal and Phil Hartman's amazing style of humor. I am just so thankful that while he was alive, he was able to work on so many different TV shows and movies so that his work will always be remembered.

The good news, however, is that Sony will continue with the special features on Season 4 of NewsRadio. I can't wait to watch the bonus Pop-Up version of the 50th episode that will be included. I just hope there are more commentaries, not that I've listened to any of the ones on the earlier sets. Nevertheless, I feel they add a lot of value to these DVDs.

Oh, and one last thing. I think I've decided that this blog will mostly be about the latest DVD news, although I plan to write about many various topics.

Hey (insert your name here),

Welcome to the official MkO/360 (a.k.a. Mickey J. Katz Online) blog.

I'm really only doing this for myself. So, if anyone else is reading this, I hope you enjoy my opinions and what I like to call my sense of humor. Otherwise, please stop reading this, close this window, and possibly turn off your computer.
Hey, everyone else in the world is blogging. Why shouldn't I?
